Interfaith leaders and parents are set to speak at a joint press conference at the U.S. Capitol on Dec. 15 in support of expanding the Child Tax Credit.

When the Child Tax Credit was expanded in 2021, it slashed child poverty by more than 40% and kept more than two million children out of poverty. The expansion, however, expired at the end of 2021. Dec. 15 will mark one year since the last monthly Child Tax Credit payments were delivered to parents.

The lame duck session is Congress’s best chance to revive this life-changing policy and support struggling American families.

Speakers will emphasize the need to make the Child Tax Credit available to all families, regardless of income. As it currently stands, nearly 19 million children are either ineligible for the Child Tax Credit or receive a partial credit because their parents make too little money. When access to the Child Tax Credit was temporarily extended to all families regardless of income in 2021, poverty dropped by 52% for Black children, 45% for Hispanic children, and 61% for Native children.

Speakers:

  • Faith leaders from the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, the Friends Committee on National Legislation, Bread for the World, National Association of Evangelicals, NETWORK, The Jewish Federations on North America, and more.
  • Parents who received the previously expanded Child Tax Credit.

Location:

  • U.S. Capitol, Senate East Front, Grassy Area 8 (bounded by Constitution Ave. NE, First St. NE, Northeast Dr., and the East Front.)
