War is Not the Answer

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) is a nonpartisan organization that advocates for social and economic justice, peace, environmental concerns, and good government. Since 1943, we have engaged our nationwide grassroots network of tens of thousands of Quakers and people of faith and conscience in order to fulfill our mission: to create a world free of war and the threat of war.

I believe that peace throughout the world is attainable. However, it can only be achieved if you, as a member of Congress, pass and support laws that promote peace – not war.

Since 9/11, we have been engaged in endless war. An entire generation of Americans has grown up without knowing their country at peace. The possibility of a war with Iran is extremely high.

This must stop. War is not the answer. Peace and security can be achieved only by peaceful means. Congress should return to diplomacy, reassert its war authority, and prevent yet another endless war in the Middle East.
